I love traveling. Something about going to places both old and new sparks the imagination, and nothing else replaces it for me. My best creative moments happen when I’m traveling. The change from the familiar to the unfamiliar—or from the familiar to the formerly familiar—causes a new perspective that is so hard to re-create in every-day surroundings.

However, sometimes you just don’t have the ability to save the money to GO anywhere. Tuition happens, dead cars happen, the need for a wardrobe overhaul happens. Life sometimes prevents travel. So, I’ve found a new way to cope. Pinterest boards.

It started with a thought: if I didn’t have to worry about bills, where would I spend ten days this summer? For some reason, Switzerland came to mind. I don’t know why. Maybe I registered seeing the Matterhorn in Disneyland earlier that week, but it came to mind. So I figured, create a board for it. I even got a follow from the official Swiss Tourism Site, so when that fantasy trip happens, I’ll be ready!

A picture doesn’t quite make up for the visit to these exotic places, but having a Pinboard full of them sure doesn’t hurt. It’s not quite the same creative inspiration that visiting would create, but it’s at least a stress relieving outlet.

So what about you? What do you do to deal with travel fever?
